Methodology

This page describes how Vermutpedia evaluates, reviews and presents vermouths. For general project context, see also About Vermutpedia .

How the Vermutpedia Score is calculated

The Vermutpedia Score is an editorial rating on a 0–10 scale. It reflects our subjective tasting: balance between bitterness and sweetness, integration of botanicals, texture, length on the palate and versatility in a glass or in cocktails.

It does not come from laboratories, official certifications or agreements with wineries. When a profile does not yet have its own score, the Peñín rating (0–100 scale) divided by ten may be shown as an external reference, clearly labelled and without replacing Vermutpedia's evaluation.

Pillar guide rankings are ordered by Vermutpedia Score when published. Only bottlings with an available score appear in the top table.

Review criteria

Enriched profiles follow a four-section structure to make comparison between bottlings easier:

  • General impression — context, first impression and product positioning.
  • Nose and palate — aromas, flavours, balance and length.
  • How to drink it — serving, temperature, mixes or recommended pairings.
  • Production context — winery, method, botanicals or history when it adds value.

Transparent affiliate policy

Some profiles include purchase links (buyUrl or buyLinks) to shops or distributors. These links may generate affiliate commissions when indicated.

The presence or absence of purchase links does not influence the Vermutpedia Score or position in rankings or guides. We do not accept payment in exchange for higher scores or editorial coverage.

If a profile shows purchase buttons, this is for the reader's information. The purchase decision always rests with the user.

Updates and limitations

We review and expand the catalogue on an ongoing basis. Technical data (ABV, grapes, methods) is published in good faith and may contain errors or become outdated if the producer reformulates the product.

Thematic guides such as value-for-money may use curated lists when we do not have structured prices across all profiles; criteria are explained in each guide.
