Overall impression

Vermut Lolito Rojo is the red counterpart of Gran Canaria's first vermouth brand, born in 2020 at the Valle de Mogán restaurant (Pueblo Mogán) with the idea of offering customers a fully artisan product, made by the team itself from botanical blending through wine assembly, sweetness level, bottling and labelling. The name honours Lolito, the Marrero family's twelve-year-old chihuahua — «quite the gentleman», according to the label. Same philosophy as the white in the range: integral process control on the island, registered Vermut «Lolito» trademark and vocation for authentic Canarian aperitivo. The red stands out for brilliant ruby colour, characteristic wormwood bitterness, spiced notes and a tannic, enveloping touch that distinguishes it from the golden, citrus profile of Lolito Blanco. The «factory» is visitable at Calle Los Pasitos, 2, Pueblo Mogán. Not an imported vermouth with a local label: a gastronomic project that wanted to master its own house aperitivo on Gran Canaria's south coast, with the motto «Those who know how to drink in moderation know how to live».

Nose and palate

Brilliant ruby colour in the glass, with visual intensity that anticipates an aperitivo red vermouth rather than a heavy table wine. Characteristic wormwood bitterness marks the aromatic centre, backed by spiced notes that recall Mediterranean vermouth tradition adapted to the Canarian Atlantic climate. Tannic, enveloping touch overall: structure suggesting some body without losing freshness when served very cold. Semisweet profile balanced by wormwood bitterness and the spiced layer; neither a cloying red nor a radical dry. On the palate, enveloping, savoury sensation with persistence in spice and integrated bitterness. Medium passage, gentle texture. The house recommends serving it cold with a fresh orange slice, a citrus nod that links with the white served with lime. 15% vol. A red vermouth designed for terrace, Mogán harbour and pre-dinner aperitivo in an island setting.

How to serve it

Ideal very cold with a fresh orange slice — service the house explicitly recommends for the red, in contrast with the white's lime. In a wide glass with ice if greater dilution is sought on hot days on Gran Canaria's south coast. Works as aperitivo at the Valle de Mogán restaurant or at home, with olives, soft cheeses and Canarian tapas. Also in simple mixed drinks where an island-origin spiced, semisweet red is wanted. A visit to the «factory» on Calle Los Pasitos completes the experience. 75 cl format. Contact: +34 686 122 338, valledemoganrestaurante@mail.com. It does not compete with Jerez vermouths nor large-scale Italian brands: it is island vermouth, direct and honest, sibling to Lolito Blanco in the same artisan range.

Production context

Full artisan production in Gran Canaria: selection and blending of botanicals → assembly of Spanish wines → sweetness adjustment → bottling and labelling in Pueblo Mogán. 2020 project; registered Vermut «Lolito» trademark. Team linked to Valle de Mogán restaurant. Range with Lolito Blanco (bright gold, refreshing acidity, lime service) and Lolito Tinto (ruby, wormwood, spices, orange service). 15% vol., 75 cl. Explicit philosophy of moderation and responsible consumption on the official website. Gran Canaria's first vermouth with tourist and local vocation, born from a restaurant kitchen that decided to control every phase of its reference aperitivo.
