Overall impression

Txurrut Vintage Luxuzko condenses the identity of Basque vermouth from Vegame S.L. in its most exclusive expression. Antonio Vence developed the range in Sopuerta (Enkarterri) from 2014 with winemaker Imanol Sarasola and designer Nuria Ortega; Luxuzko came later as an evolution of Vintage, aimed at palates seeking greater aromatic depth. Production is tiny: in the first 2016 edition only 300 bottles were filled. In international competition it adds Gran Oro at CWWSC 2025 (95 points) and Bacchus Oro 2023. Bottling is done by Destilerías Manuel Acha in Amurrio (Álava), with tradition since 1831.

Nose and palate

Caramel arrope colour, according to the official CWWSC tasting note. The nose combines floral freshness with aromatic herbs and balsamic nuances reminiscent of Vintage but with greater concentration. On the palate it is warm and enveloping, with slightly alcoholic volume and glyceric sensation. Fresh herbs and florals dominate the mid-palate; the finish is elegant, soft and bitter in just measure, without losing the Atlantic identity of Hondarribi Zuri.

How to serve it

Premium glass with large ice and orange twist to appreciate the complexity without masking it. Also works in a Negroni or Manhattan when you want a vermouth with Basque character and more body than a classic Italian red.

Production context

Hondarribi Zuri base from Enkarterri vineyards, macerated with more than 20 botanicals — including fennel, juniper, vanilla, rose petals and caramel — for around 60 days, followed by 45 days' rest before bottling. 18% vol., 75 cl format. The bodega presents it as the «essence» of Txurrut Vintage, with the same artisan philosophy as the rest of the range (Txurrut, Vintage, Zuria, X Aniversario).
