Alvear Vermouth Rojo
Overall impression
Alvear Vermouth Rojo Artesano revives the 1955 recipe of cellar master José Raigón at the oldest winery in Andalusia (founded 1729). Based on Pedro Ximénez oloroso aged more than ten years in old American oak butts, macerated with artemisia, rosemary, sage, cinnamon and orange peel; a touch of young PX for balance. 94 points Peñín Guide (Top-10 vermouths); an artisan relaunch replacing the previous market vermouth.
Nose and palate
Dark cherry with iodine tones. Very powerful, elegant and deep nose: floral, balsamic, raisin and integrated spice. Broad and elegant palate; balance between balsamic, floral and PX sweetness; long finish with noble wood.
How to serve it
At 6–8 °C neat over ice or in signature cocktails. Montilla-Moriles aperitivo.
Production context
Made in Montilla (Córdoba), D.O. Montilla-Moriles. 100% Pedro Ximénez. 15% vol., 75 cl. The sole vermouth reference from Bodegas Alvear.
