What is alcohol-free vermouth

These are de-alcoholised vermouths or products made at ≤0.5% vol. so they can use the term “alcohol-free” under European Union labelling rules. They retain botanical maceration and the structure of vermouth, but have less alcoholic body.

They are not simply flavoured juices: they either start with a base wine that is treated to remove alcohol or use a purpose-built formula with no significant alcoholic fermentation. EU rules permit up to 0.5% vol. residual alcohol while still allowing an “alcohol-free” label, so always read the ABV on the product page.

How do they taste?
