PGI
A PGI is a Protected Geographical Indication that links a product to a territory and a recognised product specification.
Protection requires that at least one stage of production, processing or preparation is tied to the defined area. It should not be confused with a designation of origin or a mere geographical mention.
In aromatised wines, protected figures and traditional mentions vary by country and legislation. The guide to vermouth denominations explains cases such as Vermouth di Torino.
