Overall impression

Martínez Lacuesta Vermut Edición Limitada is the most concentrated expression in the Rioja premium range: aged in six select new French-oak casks for fourteen months to achieve maximum complexity within the Lacuesta universe. According to the winery, in 2004 Luis Martínez-Lacuesta decided to age vermouth in barrel as if it were a guarda wine; the experiment became a milestone with the seven-month Vermouth Reserva (2005). Over the years came new versions, including the Edición Limitada with fourteen months — the longest ageing in the standard red range. It shares the Conzia formula (twenty-four botanicals), the same heritage as Conzia de guarda and Reserva en Roble, but with a more concentrated profile and fine toast after prolonged ageing in new wood. Limited production. For Vermutpedia, it represents Rioja vermouth at its peak barrel expression: six casks, fourteen months, integrated botanicals and sweet-bitter balance with great depth.

Nose and palate

The profile is concentrated, with fine toast from new French oak and integrated botanicals after prolonged ageing — not frontal herbaceousness, but wood and spice in balance. On the nose emerge notes of vanilla, toasted caramel, bitter citrus and fine wood that anticipate density without heaviness. The Conzia formula of twenty-four plants, cold-macerated according to the winery's artisan process, merges with the barrel rather than competing with it. On the palate the sweet-bitter balance reaches great depth: contained semisweet sweetness, subtle bitterness and a long finish with persistence of toast and spice. Broad, silky texture; evolution in the glass toward drier, woodier notes. Compared with Reserva en Roble (seven months, Allier, medium toast), the Edición Limitada offers greater concentration and almost double the ageing; against Conzia (twelve months, American and French oak), greater integration of new wood and a more gourmet profile. A vermouth for palates seeking barrel complexity without abandoning Lacuesta identity.

How to serve it

Martínez Lacuesta recommends the Edición Limitada in a cocktail glass without ice, very cold, for special occasions — a format that allows appreciation of the fourteen months of ageing and the fine toast of the six select casks. This is not terrace vermouth or quick consumption: it invites slow tasting where the vermouth evolves in the glass. It also works with a green olive or a slice of bitter orange; the citrus lifts the botanicals without dissipating the wood. In cocktails, it can lead Negroni or Manhattan with a premium Rioja profile when density and new-barrel notes are sought; its structure supports bitter and gin. Pairs with aged cheeses, foie gras, soft red meats and dark chocolate desserts; the toasted register complements fat and sweetness. Serve between 8 and 10 °C. Avoid ice that would dilute fourteen months of complexity. The Edición Limitada is celebration and discovery vermouth.

Production context

Bodegas Martínez Lacuesta makes the Edición Limitada in Haro (La Rioja), with the Conzia formula of twenty-four botanicals on a white-wine base. Fourteen months of ageing in six select new French-oak casks — the longest in the red range alongside Conzia de guarda. Distinct from Reserva en Roble (seven months, Allier, medium toast) and Conzia (twelve months, American and French oak). Limited production; 15% vol., 75 cl. The winery, pioneer of Reserva vermouth in Spain (2005), places the Edición Limitada at the summit of its barrel evolution alongside Reserva Acacia and Conzia. For Vermutpedia, it synthesises maximum guarda Rioja vermouth: six casks, fourteen months, integrated Conzia and fine toast.
