Overall impression

Martínez Lacuesta Vermut Blanco is the first Riojan vermouth from the Haro winery — pioneer since 1937 — and the semisweet white expression of the La Conzia formula: up to twenty-four aromatic plants and herbs macerated in the same barrels where the house wines age. According to martinezlacuesta.com, it offers a sweet moment and a stimulating aperitif; all subtlety thanks to chamomile and mint aromas and a vanilla touch, with liquorice and cinnamon memories and infinite pleasure at the right moment. Vermouth production since 1937 with artisan cold-maceration process. 15% vol., 75 cl., contains sulphites. For Vermutpedia, it represents classic Riojan white vermouth: floral, soft, semisweet and with Conzia character integrated in American oak. Distinct from the Rojo (caramel, sweet entry) or Extra Seco (bitter finish), the Blanco bets on aromatic subtlety and amiable sweetness.

Nose and palate

The official shop describes an aromatic, floral, soft vermouth. Chamomile and mint aromas with vanilla touch; liquorice and cinnamon memories forming a stimulating bouquet without aggression. On the palate, amiable sweetness with integrated bitterness and good persistence — semisweet profile the winery associates with aperitif pleasure at the right moment. Maceration of up to twenty-four botanicals in American oak barrels where the wines age brings integration industrial maceration cannot achieve; chamomile and mint bring herbal freshness, liquorice and cinnamon spiced depth. Compared with Extra Seco (floral, dry, bitterness in the name) or Reserva en Roble (toasted notes, seven months Allier), the Blanco is sweeter, more floral and more accessible.

How to serve it

Martínez Lacuesta positions the Blanco as a stimulating aperitif of subtlety: cold alone or in cocktails where Riojan white vermouth with character is sought, according to the shop sheet. Serve between 6 and 8 °C in cocktail glass or balloon; ice optional according to preference. The floral and vanilla profile dialogues with olives, soft cheeses and light tapas; in cocktail work it brings chamomile, mint and liquorice to white Martini, Bamboo or gin variations. The Lacuesta range was designed for aperitif with personality; for slow tasting, a glass without ice allows appreciation of cinnamon and vanilla touch. Pairs with pickles and conservas. Coherent with the Blanco, Rojo, Extra Seco, Reserva, Reserva Acacia, Conzia and Limited Edition range.
