Overall impression

Merwut Grand Luxe is Dorst & Consorten's limited premium edition: only ~1000 bottles from very ripe Spätlese grapes, three years in oak barrique, no added sugar or colouring; hand-bottled, natural cork and wax seal. 20% vol. versus 18% for classic Merwut. Viniculture calls it the «royal class» of Wermut: pleasant herbal notes, not overly sweet despite grape ripeness; Amadoro evokes deep saturated colour, dense spiced body, background fruit sweetness and a long warm finish. Ideal as aperitif and digestif for connoisseurs; less cocktail-friendly than standard Merwut. For Vermutpedia, it is the guarda summit of the Merwut project.

Pending evaluation. Trade sources: intense herbs, dense body, Spätlese residual fruit sweetness (no added sugar), warm long finish; darker and deeper than Merwut 18%.

How to serve it

On ice with a little lemon (Viniculture); neat in a glass, fresh but not iced hard, to appreciate the barrique. Avoid long-drink dilution if the 20% vol. density is wanted. Pairs with spiced desserts, dark chocolate and aged cheeses.
