La Vivariense

Viveiro , España

Overall impression

O Botafumeiro Blanco is the white variant of La Vivariense's Atlantic vermouth (Viveiro), a more recent launch than the red but already crowned best Galician white vermouth at Fevino 2019 according to La Voz de Galicia. Marcelino Fernández, the house manager, defines the project as «the finest raw materials, made with care and know-how, with native botanicals» that provide the distinctive Galician touch.

Nose and palate

Made with Albariño wine and thirteen botanicals: cinchona, wormwood, cinnamon, clove, coriander, gentian, hyssop, juniper, centaury, liquorice, cardamom, orange and elderberry according to Frutería Deborah. Dense, powerful, with lively tannin and a delicious bitterness that amplifies its personality. Traditional profile with character and Galician spirit, according to the distributor itself.

How to serve it

Between 8 and 12 °C, with ice and lemon (lemon peel twist recommended by La Voz de Galicia). Minimum one hundred days of bottle rest for aromatic integration before commercial release. A one-litre format suited to Galician bar culture and generous aperitivo service.

Production context

Made in Viveiro (Lugo) by La Vivariense, a company with more than a hundred years selling spirits, liqueurs and its own vermouth. Galician Albariño base; traditional production with classic and native botanicals. 15% vol., 1 L bottle. Sibling to Botafumeiro Rojo, awarded best Galician vermouth in 2018.
