Overall impression

O Botafumeiro Rojo is the flagship vermouth of La Vivariense (Viveiro, Lugo), a coastal distributor with more than a century of liqueur tradition. Made since 2016, it won the prize for best Galician vermouth at a blind regional hospitality tasting (2018), competing with St. Petroni, Nordesía and other Galician houses according to La Voz de Galicia. Traditional, powerful and recognisable character with Atlantic soul.

Nose and palate

Based on Albariño wine with a combination of aromatic herbs and spices to amplify Atlantic aromas. Garnet colour with brown reflections, clean and bright. Aroma of black liquorice, thyme, cinnamon and clove, with a slightly sweet edge. Dense, powerful, with lively tannin and refreshing lift; a delicious bitterness that reinforces its marked personality.

How to serve it

With ice and lemon; also mixed with gin or vodka and in cocktails. Pairs with anchovies, ibérico charcuterie and traditional pickles. Minimum one hundred days of bottle rest before commercial release according to Galician press. The one-litre bottle suits bar service and the vermuteo ritual on the Galician coast.

Made in Viveiro (Lugo, Galicia) by La Vivariense. Albariño base; classic botanicals and native Galician herbs. 15% vol., 1 L bottle. Sibling: Botafumeiro Blanco (Fevino 2019 award as best Galician white vermouth).
