Vermut Blanco Calla i Beu
Vermutpedia Score: 8.5/10
Overall impression
Calla i Beu Blanco is the clear-cut expression of Cup de la Muntanya's vermouth line from Planes (El Comtat, Alicante), a natural-wine bodega with a long track record in high-altitude vineyards. Unlike the Muscat red, it is built on fresh, low-aroma mountain white wine so the herbs lead. It shares the Calla i Beu philosophy: mountain Mediterranean vermouth with contained sweetness, present bitterness and local botany. The lighter, more direct face of the brand for aperitif.
Nose and palate
On the nose, thyme and fennel from the Alicante mountains, dried orange peel and rosemary, with restrained florals and mineral freshness from high-altitude wine. Wormwood sits in layers without dominating from the first sip. On the palate, a drier, more vertical entry than the red: broad mid-palate, moderate sweetness that rounds without masking natural acidity, and a long finish with clean mountain bitterness. Lemon verbena, pebrella and other local botanicals add fine spice. Vermutpedia Score 8.5: an excellent artisan white for those who want Alicante mountain vermouth without dominant muscat sweetness.
How to serve it
Very cold (5–8 °C), neat or over ice with a lemon twist or orange peel, in a small glass or tumbler. A simple spritz with soda or sparkling water enhances its verticality without drowning the herbs. Pairs with olives, gildas, fresh cheese, light pickles and Levantine cooking without heavy sauces. Terrace and village-bar vermouth; best taken from the fridge just before serving. Less sweet than the red — an everyday aperitif option.
Production context
Made at Cup de la Muntanya (Planes, El Comtat) from mountain white wine, with maceration of wormwood and botanicals from terraces, slopes and sierras of El Comtat, l'Alcoià and Marina Alta: thyme, rosemary, fennel, lemon verbena, dried orange peel and other seasonally gathered herbs. Same bodega and same balance of sweetness, bitterness and acidity as the red in the range, fixed with quality grape spirit. 15% vol., 70 cl bottle. Sibling of Calla i Beu Rojo (Muscat of Alexandria base).
