El Quinto
Overall impression
El Quinto is an artisan vermouth born at the family bodega Ciudad de Parparina, in Corera (Valle de Ocón, La Rioja). The project arises when a winemaking couple decide to go «one step further» than traditional wine and make vermouth with their own grapes; the name pays homage to an absent friend whose presence endures in every bottle, according to local press. Produced in small batches by the couple themselves, without industrial structure: producers and makers who sell exclusively what they harvest in their valley vineyards — vermouth as personal tribute and Rioja valley terroir in a bottle.
Nose and palate
The creators themselves describe a profile hard to put into words: smooth yet with backbone, apparently sweet without cloying. The base is family-vineyard Tempranillo, macerated with natural herbs and caramel. The result points to a balanced, natural, artisan vermouth, more oriented to direct sensory experience than to conventional style labels — a vermouth that resists easy categorisation and invites discovery sip by sip.
How to serve it
Initially marketed at Vitoria-Gasteiz markets (Lakua on Wednesdays; Santa Bárbara and Simón Bolívar Thursdays and Saturdays), according to Gasteiz Berri. Ideal in the vermouth bar or market ritual, on its own or with ice. The small-batch, direct-sale logic positions El Quinto for informal, local consumption where the personal story and Tempranillo base can be appreciated without ceremony.
Production context
Made at Ciudad de Parparina, Corera, in the heart of Valle de Ocón (La Rioja). 100% family-vineyard Tempranillo base; maceration with natural herbs and caramel. Artisan production in reduced batches by the founding couple. Distribution concentrated in Álava and the Basque area in the 2025 launch phase documented by Gasteiz Berri. For Vermutpedia, El Quinto synthesises intimate Rioja artisan vermouth: family vineyards, personal homage and market-first distribution.
