Familia Barriobero Vermouth Rojo
Overall impression
Familia Barriobero Vermouth Rojo is the vermouth from the Familia Barriobero line of Bodegas Señorío de Barriobero (Entrena, La Rioja), a house linked to the Himafesa group and listed with the DOCa Rioja Regulatory Council. According to the official sheet (archived at bodegasbarriobero.com), it is made by macerating aromatic plants of fifteen different varieties on «our best wines»; 15% vol., 75 cl, serve at 6–10 °C. Importer Shaw’s Iberian describes it as smooth and less bitter than many Spanish vermouths, well seasoned by the fifteen plants and sweet without excess. For Vermutpedia, it documents the red vermouth of a Riojan winery of DOCa wines and sparkling wines: a single vermouth reference verifiable in the Familia Barriobero / Vinos de España catalogue.
Nose and palate
Pending evaluation. Trade / importer sheet: soft, silky profile; well seasoned by the fifteen aromatic plants; contained sweetness and less marked bitterness than many Spanish reds.
How to serve it
Per the winery, 6–10 °C. Shaw’s Iberian suggests neat or with ice, an orange slice and, if desired, an olive; also in a Negroni with gin and Campari. Fits Riojan aperitif with Himafesa pickles (the house also specialises in olives and preserves) and light tapas.
