La Giganta
Vermutpedia Score: 7.7/10
Overall impression
La Giganta is the red vermouth from Bodegas Sinforiano in Mucientes (Valladolid): a "rosé wine vermouth" that revives the traditional method of the old producing houses of northern Italy. Based on Tempranillo, Verdejo and Albillo; the rosé wine ages in oak barrels while macerating with 21 natural botanicals. Hand harvesting and 15% vol. position it as the vermouth reference of the Sinforiano project.
Nose and palate
Mahogany colour with amber reflections. Intense nose of aromatic herbs, orange and spices, with liquorice in the background — orange peel, clove, fennel and wormwood (artemisia) stand out among the botanicals. Generous, balanced, long, enveloping palate; bitterness is fine and integrated within a semisweet whole with good persistence.
How to serve it
With ice and an orange slice at aperitif hour; pairs with Castilian tapas and nibbles. A drop of Angostura can enhance the spiced profile without masking the rosé base.
Production context
Made in Mucientes following the classic Italian method: rosé in oak plus botanical maceration. 15% vol., 75 cl. Sinforiano's sole vermouth reference; the bodega presents it as "La Giganta" in its vermouth section.
