Muntaner Blanco
Vermutpedia Score: 6.8/10
Overall impression
Muntaner Blanco is the Mallorcan white vermouth from Antonio Nadal Destilerías, a historic Mallorca brand with tradition in liqueurs and spirits. According to the house sheet, it is dry and powerful — 18% vol. — made with Prensal Blanc must without added sugars, macerated with twelve to fourteen botanicals for forty days and refined one month in five-hundred-litre oak barrels. Intense yellow colour; very citrus profile with cardamom, cinnamon, clove and lemon. The Muntaner range includes Blanco, Rojo and Rosé; the white represents the dry, vinous island expression. Botanicals such as artemisia, orange, lemon, juniper, chamomile and rose petals configure a Mediterranean island profile. For Vermutpedia, it is premium Balearic vermouth: Prensal Blanc, unsweetened, high ABV and brief oak passage. Distinct from sweet commercial whites, it bets on dryness, alcoholic power and natural Mallorcan botany. 75 cl; reference for aperitif with character and White Negroni-style cocktails. Antonio Nadal markets the Muntaner range from Mallorca with artisan focus and indigenous grape.
Nose and palate
The winery describes intense yellow colour and very citrus profile. On the nose emerge cardamom, cinnamon, clove and lemon, with herbs and spices from maceration — artemisia, chamomile, juniper, rose petals — that add floral and herbal complexity. Without added sugars, sweetness comes only from Prensal Blanc must, giving a drier, more vinous character than most market whites. On the palate it is intense, balanced and with long aftertaste; 18% vol. sustains structure and persistence. One month in five-hundred-litre oak adds slight roundness without dominating. Spices — cardamom, cinnamon, clove — appear in warm layers; lemon and orange refresh. Compared with Jerez or Italian whites, Muntaner bets on Mallorcan grape and dryness. Contained herbal bitterness, long finish with herbs and citrus. Oak passage adds subtle roundness without masking citrus freshness. A white for palates valuing power, dryness and island Mediterranean botany.
How to serve it
Antonio Nadal recommends serving Muntaner Blanco with ice, lemon and olive — classic Mallorcan aperitif format that balances citrus, salinity and bitterness. Also works in White Negroni or with tonic in a balloon glass, where 18% vol. and dry profile add structure. Serve cold, between 6 and 8 °C; in a wide glass with ice. Green olive dialogues with herbs; lemon enhances citrus botany. In cocktails, it replaces sweet whites when Mallorcan dryness and character are sought. Pairs with sobrasada, mahón cheese, olives and island tapas. Solo, in cocktail glass, to appreciate cardamom and long aftertaste. Do not over-dilute: high ABV is part of identity. Also as solo aperitif without mix to appreciate spice. For Balearic terrace or bar with personality. The 75 cl format invites slow aperitif. Coherent with the Muntaner range and Antonio Nadal's distilling tradition in Mallorca.
