¡Oh Là Là! Vermouth Rouge

Bodegas Vegamar

Alto Turia , España

Overall impression

¡Oh Là Là! Vermouth Rouge is the vermouth bet of Bodegas Vegamar (Alto Turia, inland Valencia), a winery founded in 1999 with mountain vineyards above 600 m. Winery vermouth aged a minimum of fourteen months in new 400-litre French oak barrels, with blending of the wine base and aromatic base in 16,000-litre vats according to Bodeboca. The house conceives it as refined Mediterranean vermouth, with Bacchus d'Oro 2022 and recognition in international competitions according to specialised press. For Vermutpedia, it represents Valencian mountain vermouth with barrel ambition: Garnacha and Moscatel, Mediterranean botanicals and fourteen months of French oak that distinguish it from industrial Spanish reds. At 15% vol. and 75 cl, it bets on gourmet profile and enotourism appeal within a winery better known for mountain wines than vermouth.

Nose and palate

Brilliant amber colour with copper glints. Citrus nose (dried orange peel, ginger, cardamom), balsamic and luscious: toasted caramel, green walnut shell, cinnamon, aromatic herbs, red and yellow flowers; gentian and wormwood stand out with a toasted background. On the palate silky and enveloping, balance between sweetness and bitterness, character and lightness; broad aftertaste with mild sweetness and balanced acidity that invites another sip. The fourteen months in new French oak add toast and structure without overwhelming the botanical maceration. Compared with unaged Mediterranean vermouths, ¡Oh Là Là! offers greater depth and gourmet register; the Garnacha-Moscatel base (70/30 according to Bodeboca) brings fruit and floral lift beneath spice and gentian. Texture is seductive; finish persists in citrus-bitter and toasted register. A vermouth for palates seeking barrel-aged Valencian vermouth with competition credentials.

How to serve it

Serve cold. Bodeboca recommends aperitifs such as nuts, pickles or preserves; also anchovy or tuna escabeche toasts. Fits classic cocktails and Mediterranean aperitif. Temperature between 6 and 8 °C; in a balloon or wide glass, the amber colour and copper glints reward contemplative service. In Negroni or Manhattan, the fourteen months of barrel and 15% vol. bring structure without dominating gin or bitter. For terrace aperitif, ice and orange peel enhance the citrus botanicals. Pairs with aged cheeses, cured meats and Mediterranean conservas. Not vermouth for quick consumption: the barrel ageing and botanical complexity invite slow tasting. For Vermutpedia, ¡Oh Là Là! Rouge is celebration and discovery vermouth from Alto Turia mountain vineyards.
