Vermut Raimat El Polvorí
Overall impression
Vermut Raimat El Polvorí is the only vermouth reference from the Codorníu group in D.O. Costers del Segre, presented in March 2023 as the winery's first vermouth in Lleida. According to Raimat's official information, it is an organic, sustainable and vegan drink made from quality wine infused with more than 48 extracts of Mediterranean and alpine aromatic herbs, including native herbs that bring Mediterranean character. The name pays homage to the army powder magazine that occupied part of today's Raimat vineyards during the Civil War: powder-storage huts in La Cerdera still preserved on the estate. Designed for aperitif and late afternoon, at 15.5% vol. and 75 cl. For Vermutpedia, it represents modern Catalan organic vermouth from a historic winery: the sole El Polvorí expression in the catalogue, no extended range, a bet on sustainable viticulture and a younger audience.
Nose and palate
The tasting note describes evolved amber-to-tile colour, sharp and bright. On the nose emerge caramel, Mediterranean spices and forest herbs, with wood softened by botanical freshness. On the palate it is complex, balanced and persistent, with Mediterranean character and good integration between semisweet sweetness and herbal bitterness. Hydroalcoholic maceration with more than 48 botanicals — Mediterranean and alpine, with native herbs highlighted — adds aromatic layers without oppressive density. Enveloping texture, round passage, spiced and herbal persistence. Compared with century-old Reus or Badalona vermouths of tradition, El Polvorí bets on organic, vegan and Codorníu estate narrative; against industrial vermouths, it prioritises more than 48 botanicals and organic white wine from sustainable vineyards. A rosso for palates seeking contemporary Catalan vermouth with documented complexity, balance and persistence in Raimat's official presentation.
How to serve it
Raimat recommends El Polvorí between 8 and 10 °C, cold or with ice in a wide glass, for aperitif and late afternoon. It pairs with tapas, croquettes, cheeses and empanada according to the Vermutpedia sheet and the winery presentation. Also in late-afternoon mixed drinks where an organic vermouth with Mediterranean character is sought. Serve in a wide cup or low glass; ice opens herbs and spices without cloying. It works in spritz, simple mixed drinks and appetisers with preserves and Catalan charcuterie. It is not aggressive Negroni vermouth: it invites appreciation of the 48 botanicals and organic white-wine background. For Vermutpedia, El Polvorí is the Raimat option for cold aperitif and Mediterranean pairing. Temperature 8–10 °C; ideal for anyone exploring organic winery vermouth with Codorníu stamp and Costers del Segre origin.
Production context
Raimat (Codorníu group) makes El Polvorí at the Lleida estate with an organic white-wine base from sustainable vineyards. Process: hydroalcoholic maceration with more than 48 Mediterranean and alpine botanicals — including native herbs — pressing, blending and incorporation of remaining ingredients, filtration before bottling according to the official presentation. 15.5% vol., 75 cl. Organic and vegan; no barrel ageing declared. The sole El Polvorí expression in the winery catalogue; no extended range. Available on Raimat's website and specialist distributors. For Vermutpedia, El Polvorí synthesises Raimat's Catalan organic vermouth: 48 botanicals, organic white wine, 15.5% vol. and production verifiable at raimat.com and the official March 2023 presentation. Homage to the estate's historic powder magazine; a bet on sustainable viticulture and CCPAE organic certification in the winery's strategic line.
