Vermut Mercè del Menescal
Overall impression
Vermut Mercè del Menescal is the vermouth in the Mercè line from Celler Cal Menescal, a family winery in Bot (Terra Alta, Tarragona) with winemaking tradition at the Cal Menescal estate since around 1860 and a modernised cellar from 2000. According to cellermenescal.com, it is made with white wine, liqueur wine, caramel and herb maceration; after maceration it rests three to four months in semi-new oak barrels to stabilise aroma and flavour. The winery places vermouth tradition in Tarragona province, one of Spain's areas with the highest concentration of producers. 700 ml glass format per official Terra Alta channels; 15% vol. For Vermutpedia, Mercè del Menescal documents artisan Terra Alta vermouth: Bosch-Llovet family heritage, Mediterranean botanicals and a short spell in semi-new oak.
