Quinquina

Quinquina is the French name for a wine aperitif aromatised with cinchona bark and other ingredients.

It combines a wine base with the bitterness of cinchona, sugar and a house botanical recipe. Depending on the brand it may be citrusy, spiced, floral or markedly bitter.

It is not an exact translation of vermouth or of quinado, though they share a family. History and terminology are detailed in quinados, quinquinas and chinatos.
