61 Vermouth Tempranillo
Overall impression
61 Vermouth Tempranillo is the second reference in Bodega Cuatro Rayas's 61 collection (2020), a tribute to historic tank 61 where the cooperative bottled its first wine in the 1950s. A winery vermouth made entirely from Tempranillo, more vinous and structured than the Verdejo sibling, with skin maceration and barrel ageing.
Nose and palate
Deep cherry-red colour. Frank, very vinous nose: black fruit, coffee, cocoa, liquorice, blueberry, cinnamon, plum and orange with balsamic undertones. On the palate, generous and satisfying, with carefully calibrated sweetness and a long bitter finish that makes it especially persistent.
How to serve it
At 6–8 °C, neat or over ice. Pairs with aged cheeses, charcuterie and Castilian cooking.
Production context
Tempranillo from vineyards in La Seca, Medina del Campo, Pozal de Gallinas, Serrada and Villanueva de Duero. Aromatised with botanicals (Roberto L. Tello's recipe) and three months ageing in French and American oak. 15% vol., 75 cl sherry-style bottle.
