Alessio Vermouth Bianco
Overall impression
Vermutpedia is re-evaluating the Italian catalogue; this entry's Vermutpedia Score remains pending until the new tasting round is complete. Alessio Vermouth Bianco recovers the Italian 'Vino di Moda' of the early twentieth century according to Tempus Fugit: a variant of Chambéry blanc, crystal-clear filtered and semi-sweet, relaunched by the house in 2014. The first Vermouth Blanc appeared in Chambéry in the 1880s; in Italy it was introduced at the beginning of the twentieth century to attract a more sophisticated palate.
Nose and palate
Warm spices and gentle bitterness, with a bright, crisp citrus finish according to the official tasting notes. Crystalline elegance in the glass and on the palate; made as a traditional nineteenth-century sweet vermouth but filtered until completely clear, sometimes described as 'semi-sweet'.
How to serve it
Chilled neat, in a White Negroni or as a substitute for the sweet rosso in bar classics — recommendations from Tempus Fugit. An alternative to traditional Italian bianco vermouth in cocktails; the house suggests refrigerating after opening to preserve the crystal clarity of the filtration.
Production context
18% vol., 75 cl. Alessio line (Rosso di Torino, Chinato, Dry, Vino Chinato). A homage to the pseudonym Alessio Piemontese — Girolamo Ruscelli, 1555 — and his herbal elixirs collected in The Secrets of Alexis of Piedmont, documented ancestors of the Piedmontese vermouth according to tempusfugitspirits.com. Available in 750 ml and 375 ml formats.
