Vermut Cisa Rojo
Overall impression
Cisa Rojo is the foundational vermouth of Cisa, one of the oldest vermouth houses on the Maresme coast. Founded in 1880 by the Piera family in El Masnou, facing the Mediterranean, the brand has kept its recipe intact for more than five generations, with a trajectory recognised by a gold medal at the Barcelona International Exhibition according to GuiaVermut. For Vermutpedia, it represents artisan Maresme red vermouth at its most historic: honest, herbaceous and deeply tied to Catalan aperitivo tradition.
Nose and palate
Made with Penedès white wines — Macabeo, Xarel·lo and Parellada — and alcoholic maceration of more than twenty natural aromatic herbs: gentian, wormwood, cinnamon, rosemary, thyme, oregano, sage, star anise and liquorice. Red colour with tile reflections, perfumed and herbaceous. On the palate it is balanced, with a sweetish entry, fruit nuances and a light cinnamon finish; soft and versatile, equally at home alone or in simple mixed drinks.
How to serve it
Ideal alone with ice and orange, or with preserves and charcuterie. An artisan reference for the classic Mediterranean aperitivo of the Maresme — the kind of pour that belongs on a seaside terrace with olives, anchovies and cured meats rather than in elaborate international cocktail programmes.
Production context
Made in El Masnou (Barcelona, Maresme) since 1880 by the Piera family. Penedès wine base; maceration with more than twenty Mediterranean botanicals. 15% vol., 75 cl. Five generations of vermouth tradition without alteration of the documented family formula.
