Forzudo Rojo
Forzudo S.L. (Cooperativa Camponaraya)
Vermutpedia Score: 7.6/10
Overall impression
Forzudo Rojo is the premium Bierzo vermouth made by Forzudo S.L. at the Cooperativa de Camponaraya, inspired by a recipe recovered from the Pauline Fathers of Villafranca del Bierzo. It starts from 100% Doña Blanca from cooperative vineyards and is aromatised with twelve selected botanicals — including cinnamon, juniper and bitter orange. It is the red reference of a Bierzo range that has harvested international recognition, including an IWSC medal. For Vermutpedia, Forzudo Rojo represents territorial Leonese vermouth with monastic heritage and contemporary artisan ambition.
Nose and palate
Dark mahogany colour. Spiced nose with dried-fruit sweetness and coffee; on the palate, cardamom, liquorice and vanilla appear over a well-defined bitter background. Consistent texture and long finish, with balance between semisweet sweetness and herbal bitterness typical of classic Spanish style. Medium-high body sustains aperitif and cocktail use without losing Bierzo identity.
How to serve it
Very cold, solo with ice as the Bierzo «canalla» aperitif, or in cocktails where a vermouth with Bierzo personality and medium-high body is sought. Temperature 6–10 °C; wide glass with ice and orange peel. Works in Negroni and Manhattan variations where Doña Blanca structure and spiced botanicals add depth. Pairs with local charcuterie, aged cheeses and hearty Leonese tapas.
Production context
Made in Camponaraya (León) with Doña Blanca exclusively from the Bierzo. 15% vol., 1 L bottle; also available in 3 L Bag-in-Box. Pairs with Forzudo Blanco, which incorporates reineta apple and seventeen botanicals in a semidry profile. For Vermutpedia, Forzudo Rojo synthesises premium Bierzo red vermouth: cooperative viticulture, recovered monastic recipe and IWSC recognition.
