Jarabe de Palo Vermouth Rojo
Overall impression
Jarabe de Palo Vermouth Rojo is a premium Marina Alta vermouth born from the collaboration between Bodegas Antonio Llobell (Teulada-Moraira), winemaker Víctor Martín and Macaulay & Cumming's Oak Master® system. Built on certified D.O. Alicante Alexandrian Muscat from old vines, it is a world pioneer in direct in-bottle oak maceration via a stopper infused with 4 g of French oak—a bold marriage of medieval herb craft and modern packaging innovation.
Nose and palate
Mahogany with reddish glints. The nose is intense and fresh: Muscat, wormwood, gentian and Cretan dittany integrated with French oak from the stopper and a balsamic undertow. On the palate it is sweet yet lively, with persistence of aromatic plants, spice and toasted wood; the finish is subtly bitter and balanced. An improved medieval recipe built on carefully selected herbs gives depth without heaviness.
How to serve it
Serve very cold (4–6 °C) over ice in a wide glass; orange peel is optional. The house suggests pairings with seafood, preserves, anchovies, asparagus or toasted almonds. The French oak and Muscat sweetness make it a contemplative Mediterranean aperitif rather than a neutral cocktail modifier.
Production context
Produced and bottled in Teulada (Alicante) by Bodegas Antonio Llobell for Macaulay & Cumming Heritage. One hundred percent Alexandrian Muscat from Marina Alta vineyards; botanical maceration follows a recipe of medieval origin. The Oak Master® stopper uses French oak from Gangutia cooperage that infuses in bottle. Fifteen percent alcohol, 75 cl (some commercial listings cite 70 cl).
