Maneli Vermut
Vermutpedia Score: 7.6/10
Overall impression
Maneli is the vermouth of Bodegas Iglesias (La Palma del Condado, Condado de Huelva), a winery with more than eighty years of experience in Atlantic wines. It takes its name from Cuesta Maneli, a natural enclave on the Huelva coast. Bitter aromatised wine on an oxidative ageing base of Listán del Condado and Zalema, with botanical preparation macerated in criadera and solera inside chestnut bocoyos in the winery cellars. For Vermutpedia, it represents Condado de Huelva vermouth: Atlantic, solera-aged, iodine-tinged and built for serious aperitif service with local gastronomy.
Nose and palate
Intense mahogany with iodine tones. Intense nose of botanicals, liquorice, cinnamon and mature wood. Dry, bitter, powerful and savoury on the palate; predominant wormwood among spices and plants, with the characteristic roundness of chestnut ageing. The oxidative base and solera integration give Maneli depth uncommon in semisweet Spanish reds — more digestif than terrace vermouth, with Atlantic salinity and woody persistence.
How to serve it
Maneli fresquito: aperitif with olives, clams, tinned mussels, cheese with quince and Huelva ham. Also in cocktails where it contributes exotic notes in the Condado vermouth style. Serve chilled — not over-iced — in a small wine glass or copita to preserve the iodine-mahogany profile; pairs with Atlantic conservas and the savoury bitterness the solera builds.
Production context
15% vol., 750 ml. Made in house solera alongside organic barrel-aged white wines, vinegars and orange wines. Reference vermouth of the Condado de Huelva DO and enotourism emblem of the Iglesias online shop. Listán del Condado and Zalema oxidative base; botanical maceration in criadera and solera in chestnut bocoyos in the winery cellars.
