Vermut Montseta Reserva

Vermut Montseta

Valls , España

Overall impression

Vermut Montseta Reserva is the summit of three generations of Bellod vermouth makers in Valls (Tarragona). Biodynamic production according to Vadevermut; twelve months in oak barrels for unique complexity, depth and roundness versus the standard red (three months in barrel). For Vermutpedia, it represents the guarda pole of the Montseta range: same KM0 philosophy and Macabeo base, added biodynamic discipline and doubled barrel time — Valls artisan vermouth for palates seeking wood integration and gastronomic ambition.

Nose and palate

Same base of 33 KM0 herbs, flowers and roots and Macabeo as the red, but with greater integration and softness from prolonged ageing. More evolving, gastronomic profile; designed for palates seeking guarda vermouth and barrel expression. On the nose, wormwood, cinnamon and vanilla appear deeper and more melded with oak; less frontal herbaceousness, more confit and spice. On the palate, semisweet balance with broader texture, softer bitterness and a long finish in toasted-herbal register. Compared with Montseta Rojo, Reserva trades immediacy for depth; against Lacuesta or Mercadal reserves, it maintains Catalan KM0 identity and biodynamic credentials. A red for slow aperitif, cheese pairing and contemplative glasses.

How to serve it

Cold or slightly tempered; premium aperitif or neat with ice and citrus. Serve between 8 and 10 °C in a cocktail glass or small balloon; avoid excess ice that would dilute twelve months of barrel work. Works with aged cheeses, foie, nuts and dark chocolate. In cocktails, can anchor a premium Negroni or Manhattan when Valls wood depth is sought. Also interesting slightly tempered in cooler months to appreciate roundness. For Vermutpedia, Montseta Reserva is drunk cool with restraint on dilution — the biodynamic, twelve-month summit of the Valls range at montseta.com.
