Vermut Murcarols Blanco
Overall impression
Vermut Murcarols Blanco is the pale expression of the Curtichs house in La Pobla de Lillet (Alt Berguedà, Barcelona): one of Catalonia's oldest vermouth labels, approaching its centenary in 2026, born from avi Josep Curtichs's «shepherd's wine» and refined with Cretan dittany. Per producer Jaume Curtichs (third generation with son Josep Maria), the range is limited to black and white — no artifice. The white, 15% vol. in a 1 L bottle per distribution, starts from dry white wine and local herbs; Sepa Distribució describes pale yellow with golden hints, intense fresh aroma of saffron, mint and Artemisia, sweet silky palate with a long finish. Secret family recipe of 60–80 herbs (by vintage), with wormwood and Catalan Pyrenean botanicals. For Vermutpedia, it documents Murcarols's historic Pyrenean white.
Nose and palate
Pending evaluation. Trade sheet: saffron–mint–Artemisia nose; sweet, silky palate, long finish.
How to serve it
Cold, with ice and lemon peel to lift natural aromas (Sepa recommendation). Ideal at the house vermutería (Carrer de l'Església, 4) with Berguedà cured meats and cheeses. Catalan mountain aperitif; less «reserva» than the black, brighter and citrus-herbal.
Production context
Made by Bodega / Vermutería Murcarols (Curtichs family; Can Mucarols) in La Pobla de Lillet. Quality white-wine base; secret mix of Mediterranean and Pyrenean herbs. Contact: vermouth@murcarols.com; (+34) 938 23 60 01; murcarols.com. Also via distributors (Sepa, Economat La Guilla, El Celler Nou). Sibling: Negro Reserva (16% vol., American oak). For Vermutpedia, the Blanco synthesises clear Murcarols: 15% vol., 1 L and saffron–mint profile verifiable on the distribution sheet.
