Overall impression

Povarelo Rojo is made in O Carballiño (Ourense) from the Paniagua family's original recipe, kept for more than eighty years, at Destilerías Miño. Three steps define the process: base of Galician wines fourteen weeks in oak, eighteen botanicals macerated individually — cinnamon, liquorice, loureiro and balsamic eucalyptus among the most notable — and one hundred fifty days' rest after bottling. Intense, full-bodied Atlantic vermouth.

Nose and palate

Garnet with brown reflections, clean and brilliant. Black liquorice, thyme, cinnamon and clove; a sweetish point on the nose that announces the density of bottle rest. Dense, powerful palate, lively tannin and refreshing, with delicious bitterness that enhances the Galician personality of the Povarelo style.

How to serve it

Preferably in an old-fashioned glass, chilled with one or two ice cubes and twist or orange peel slice. The classic serve the brand recommends to appreciate density and bitterness without excessive dilution.

Production context

Made by Destilerías Miño. 15% vol., 1 L format. Povarelo range: Rojo and Blanco. Among the 18 botanicals are wormwood, sweet flag, juniper, gentian, lemon and orange peel, sage and thyme, according to the official sheet.
