Topaz Vermouth Reserva
Vermutpedia Score: 4.9/10
Overall impression
Topaz Vermouth Reserva is DIA’s bet on the vermouth aperitif: an exclusive chain private label, made in Montilla (Córdoba) by Bodegas y Destilerías del Sur — the same direction as Cruz Conde — under the legal designation of reserve vermouth. Based on Pedro Ximénez oloroso wine, an Andalusian profile that gives it more body than entry-level supermarket vermouths. Its main virtue is value for money in a 75 cl format for informal gatherings.
Nose and palate
Mahogany colour with amber highlights. Captivating aroma: aromatic herbs and gentian in the botanical maceration, with a balsamic layer typical of the oloroso base wine. On the palate it is smooth and velvety, with balance between sweetness, acidity and bitterness; the aftertaste is long and invites another sip. More integration than a standard supermarket vermouth, though without the complexity of an independent artisan bodega vermouth.
How to serve it
The commercial sheet itself recommends vermouth, tonic, ice and orange peel. It also works in a glass with ice and mint or a lemon wedge, the classic Spanish model of an economical aperitif.
Production context
Made by DIA Retail España / Bodegas y Destilerías del Sur, S.A. (Ronda del Canillo 4, Montilla). Base of wine with agricultural alcohol, sugar, aromatic extracts and ammonium sulphite caramel. Topaz is the only reference in the brand’s DIA catalogue. 15% vol., 75 cl.
