Vermouth Quitapenas PX
Overall impression
Vermouth Quitapenas PX is the vermouth from Bodegas Quitapenas (Málaga), made from one of the house's finest Pedro Ximénez wines and defined on the official website as an aromatised fortified wine with double oxidative ageing in American oak butts for twelve months in total. Dark mahogany colour, clean and bright; tasting notes highlight aromatic herbs, orange peel, carob, eucalyptus, balsamic notes and spices. Gold at CINVE 2026, Ver-Art-Es Awards 2026 and International Wine & Spirits Awards 2025. For Vermutpedia, it represents Málaga PX vermouth with a family artemisia recipe and botanicals — lemon balm, sage, hyssop, chamomile, elderflower, clove, hops, star anise, fennel, coriander, cinnamon and turmeric — in American butts.

How to serve it
The winery orientates it to classic aperitivo: olives, pickles, pickled mussels, cheeses, charcuterie, nuts and chocolate cake. Serve very cold with ice and an orange slice to enhance citrus and herbs over the PX base. Works in a simple spritz with soda or tonic on a Málaga terrace. Temperature between 6 and 8 °C in a balloon glass or low tumbler. Does not demand complex cocktails: vermouth hour with balanced sweet-bitter character per official notes.
Production context
Production per quitapenas.es: six months' ageing as PX sweet wine; two months' maceration in hydroalcoholic solution of bitter vegetable substances of the artemisia genus with a recipe passed down through generations; blending of extract with base wine and six more months' finishing in American oak butts as vermouth. 100% Pedro Ximénez, 15% vol., 75 cl. Bodegas Quitapenas S.L., Carretera de Guadalmar 12, Málaga. For Vermutpedia, Quitapenas PX synthesises Málaga PX butt vermouth: double pass in butts, artemisia and international awards 2025–2026.
