Vermut Grana Raigones is the vermouth reference of Lagar de Los Raigones, an estate and winery in the Sierra de Montilla (Córdoba) documented since 1757 and run today by the Jiménez Luque-Romero brothers. Made from the estate's own white wines, macerated with various perfectly blended local herbs, it represents artisan Montilla vermouth in generous format: 1-litre bottle and 5-litre bag in box for home or bar consumption. Mahogany colour with terracotta hints, 15% vol. Silver medal at Premios Mezquita 2019. Neither an industrial brand nor a recent experiment: the aperitivo bet of a historic lagar combining Cordoban winemaking tradition with contemporary vermouth fashion. The name «Grana» as a distinctive reference within the Raigones catalogue. Serve between 7 and 9 °C. A vermouth of terracotta and balsamic botany, with an aniseed footprint critics have celebrated.

Nose and palate

Unmistakable, intense aromatic richness: balsamic notes from different botanicals and spices on the nose, with a sensation more bitter than what appears on the palate — where the aniseed, herbaceous touch does great favour and leaves the whole exquisite, according to specialist reviews. On the palate it is pleasant, sweet and of balanced acidity, silky, lightly bitter with a long, gratifying aftertaste. Semisweet profile without cloying; herbaceous maceration makes it pleasant and toning, filling the mouth and inviting more. Medium-long passage, silky texture. Local white wines provide a clean base for the botanicals — herbs from the Sierra de Montilla — to dialogue without artifice. It does not reach the floral complexity of Pérez Barquero nor the manzanilla power of Atamán, but occupies its niche with aniseed personality and an award in hand.

How to serve it

The house defines it as an excellent daily aperitivo: two anchovy-stuffed olives, two ice cubes and a slice of orange, served between 7 and 9 °C. The classic Cordoban vermouth ritual at home or in the bar. The litre invites sharing; the 5-litre bag in box suits a friends' bar or prolonged family consumption. Also works in a balloon glass with no further adornment to appreciate the aniseed character. Pairs with cheese, conservas and simple tapas. It does not need elaborate cocktails. 1 L as standard format; 5 L bag in box with the same formula. A vermouth meant to repeat, not to shine in an author's Negroni.
