Vermut Marulanda
Vermutpedia Score: 8.4/10
Overall impression
Vermut Marulanda is the wine project of Ángela and Javier (AM Marulanda) on 100% Monastrell from the valleys and plains of Jumilla, at 500 m altitude with a continental Mediterranean climate. Artisan production with no added alcohol or sugar: fermentation is stopped at 15% vol., preserving natural grape sugars. After filtering, it macerates three months with aromatic plants, roots, flowers, cinnamon, dittany and wormwood. Mahogany colour with orange glints; herbal, spiced and balsamic profile with a long finish and balanced bitterness.
Nose and palate
Mahogany with an orange rim, clean. Monastrell shows in the background with ripe plum and fig skin, but the aromatic foreground is herbaceous and balsamic: scrub herbs, bitter roots and a cinnamon-stick halo that leads without cloying. Dittany and wormwood add bitter freshness that holds the wine's natural semisweetness. On the palate it enters with Mediterranean body —Jumilla grape makes its presence felt— and acidity that lifts the whole; sweetness comes from fermentation stopped at 15%, not syrup, giving honest roundness. Silky texture, broad passage, long, piercing bitterness on the finish closing with dried spices and a mineral echo from calcareous soils. Persistent for a vermouth without barrel; fewer evolving layers than long-aged references, but convincing balance and recognisable Murcian character.
How to serve it
Cold as an aperitivo; pairs with Murcian tapas, preserves and aged cheeses from inland Levante.
Production context
Vineyards on calcareous sandy-loam soils in Jumilla; indicative price roughly €10.90–€13.60 depending on distributor (e.g. Invinus). Bodega founded by hospitality professionals bringing their experience to artisan Murcian vermouth.
