Rocks or Old Fashioned glass
Yield
1 cocktail

Ingredients

  • 30 ml Gin London Dry
  • 30 ml Campari
  • 30 ml Red vermouth
  • 1 slice Orange (garnish)

Method

  1. Add gin, Campari, and vermouth to a mixing glass with plenty of ice.
  2. Stir for 20–30 seconds until well chilled.
  3. Strain into a rocks glass over fresh ice or serve directly.
  4. Garnish with an orange slice, lightly expressed over the glass.

Tips

  • Use semi-sweet or sweet red vermouth with pronounced bitterness; avoid dry for the classic.
  • For a softer version, increase the vermouth proportion to 40 ml.

Frequently asked questions

Should a Negroni be shaken or stirred?

Stir with ice. Shaking adds too much air and alters the texture of the classic.

Which red vermouth works best?

A rosso with body and herbal bitterness: Carpano Antica Formula or Punt e Mes are bar standards.
