Cocchi Storico Vermouth di Torino
Overall impression
Vermutpedia is re-evaluating the Italian catalogue; the Vermutpedia Score for this entry remains pending until the new tasting round is complete. Storico Vermouth di Torino Cocchi is collective heritage of Piedmont: the Savoy court was the first great promoter of a product that, from the late eighteenth century, generated a flourishing industry that turned the region into the «Kingdom of Vermouth», according to cocchi.it. Relaunched in 2011 according to Giulio Cocchi's original recipe (1891), it belongs to the sweet or Italian vermouth category, sweet and amber as late-nineteenth-century manuals indicated. Protagonist of the international revival of high-end vermouths and renewed interest of top bartenders in the Vermouth di Torino designation — familiarly «Cocchi Torino». In a short time it became one of the premium vermouths chosen in the world's best bars; No. 1 best selling and top trending in Annual Brands Report 2025–2026, 94 pts Falstaff Wermut Trophy 2025, Best sweet Vermouth Overall Saveur 2022. For Vermutpedia, it is the essential Turinese red reference.
Nose and palate
The original recipe uses cinchona bark and rhubarb that lightly brown the clear wine; to emphasise the amber tone, sugar toasted over fire adds colour and a cotton-candy crunch note that rounds bitterness without artificial vanilla — technique documented on the official sheet. Vibrant nose: wormwood and citrus as protagonists of the Cocchi style, with cocoa and bitter orange notes. Infusions of noble and balsamic woods bring camphor and rosemary; sandalwood, myrrh and nutmeg in the background. On the palate, exciting vermouth rich in sensation: integrated toasted caramel sweetness, balanced citrus bitterness, ample texture over Moscato d'Asti base. Compared with commercial red vermouths with industrial caramel, Storico bets on burnt sugar and complex botany. For Negroni and Manhattan, it brings depth and noble bitterness that defines contemporary author cocktail work; 93 pts Annuario dei Migliori Vini d'Italia and multiple Bartenders Brand Awards medals endorse its status.
How to serve it
Delicious alone with ice and a small lemon peel, but also essential base for classic cocktails from Negroni to Manhattan — official service. Essential in Negroni, Manhattan, Martinez and Vermouth & Tonic from the Perfect Serve section. Also excellent alone with ice and orange twist for slow aperitivo. Very cold; consume preferably within a month of opening, stored cool. In international mixology, «Cocchi Torino» is synonymous with premium red vermouth: a modifier that elevates any drink requiring sweet Italian vermouth with designation. Pairs with intense appetisers, dark chocolate and aged cheeses. For Vermutpedia, it heads reference Italian vermouth lists: Storico, Torino designation and Giulio Cocchi recipe documented at cocchi.it.
Production context
Storico Vermouth di Torino is made according to Giulio Cocchi's original recipe with Moscato d'Asti, toasted sugar, alcohol and herb and spice infusion. 16% vol., 75 cl. Botanicals: cinchona, rhubarb, wormwood, citrus, sandalwood, myrrh, nutmeg, balsamic woods. Last commercial example meeting classic Vermouth di Torino designation requirements according to the house narrative. Notable recognition: Gold/Silver Bartenders Brand Awards 2018, IWSC Spirit Silver 2020, Falstaff 94 pts 2022 and 2025, Saveur Best sweet Vermouth 2022. For Vermutpedia, Cocchi Storico synthesises the reference sweet Vermouth di Torino: Moscato, burnt sugar, historic botany and heritage documented at cocchi.it/en/wines/storico-vermouth-di-torino/.
