Cocchi Vermouth di Torino Extra Dry
Overall impression
Vermutpedia is re-evaluating the Italian catalogue; the Vermutpedia Score for this entry remains pending until the new tasting round is complete. Cocchi Vermouth di Torino Extra Dry, launched in the year of the house's 130th anniversary, is a classic-style vermouth from the cradle of vermouth, Piedmont — cocchi.it. «Ricetta Piemontese» on the label precisely indicates the content: all relevant ingredients come from Piedmont and have strong ties to the region. Cortese wine (same grape as Gavi DOCG), 100% Piedmontese mountain Artemisia absinthium, Menta di Pancalieri and lemon — local tradition for garnishing vermouth in the region. It proudly carries the Vermouth di Torino designation. For Vermutpedia, it represents the extra dry Piedmontese expression at maximum territorial level: 98 pts Falstaff Wermut Trophy 2025, 97 pts Wine Enthusiast 2022, 100 world's best spirits WE 2022, Evening Standard Best Top Pick 2022. 50 cl bottle, 17% vol.; intended for Martini, Bamboo and solo service very cold.
Nose and palate
The Cortese wine at the heart of the product combines with lemon peel and Piedmontese mint, plus botanicals such as wormwood, angelica, coriander and cardamom for a fragrant, perfectly balanced character — official sheet. On the nose, green apple, melon and white flowers from the wine; cardamom, wormwood, coriander and angelica in the aromatic layer. Menta di Pancalieri and lemon peel bring herbaceous notes and brightness to the palate, creating unique personality. On the palate, extremely elegant alone: dry, mineral, herbaceous and refreshing, with balanced mountain wormwood bitterness. Compared with international commercial extra drys, Cocchi Extra Dry is unequivocally Piedmontese — Cortese, local mint, lemon. For demanding Dry Martini, it is an author modifier that brings fruity freshness and noble bitterness without residual sweetness. Wine Enthusiast placed it among the world's best spirits in 2022; Falstaff 98 pts in 2025 confirms leadership in the Wermut/Vermouth category.
How to serve it
Developed to enrich classic cocktails such as Martini or Bamboo (40 ml Cocchi Extra Dry with 40 ml dry sherry, garnished with lime or basil leaf) — official 1908 recipe. Also shines with tonic water — elderflower tonic is the house favourite — soda or alone with ice. Documented Perfect Serve: Martini 2:1, Extra Sonic, Bamboo 1908. Suggested temperature 8–10 °C; lemon twist in solo service. Consume preferably within a month of opening, stored cool. For Vermutpedia, it fits premium extra-dry vermouth lists and author Martini bars: Ricetta Piemontese, Torino designation and 100% local botanicals documented at cocchi.it.
Production context
Cocchi makes Extra Dry with Piedmont Cortese wine, sugar, alcohol and herb and spice infusion. 17% ABV, 50 cl bottle. Mountain Piedmontese Artemisia absinthium; Menta di Pancalieri; lemon; angelica, coriander, cardamom. Recognition: 98 pts Falstaff 2025, 97 pts Wine Enthusiast 2022, 92 pts Falstaff 2022, Evening Standard Best Top Pick 2022. For Vermutpedia, Cocchi Vermouth di Torino Extra Dry synthesises the reference Piedmontese extra dry: Cortese, menta di Pancalieri, mountain wormwood and heritage documented at cocchi.it/en/wines/vermouth-di-torino-extra-dry/.
