El Bandarra Rojo
Overall impression
El Bandarra Rojo is the iconic vermouth of Vimes 15 S.L., a brand born in the Penedès as homage to the golden age of Barcelona vermouth in the 1950s. According to the official website, it is «the classic, the one for life»: a popular drink designed to share with joy, terrace and good vibes. Made with Xarel·lo and Macabeo grapes from own vineyards at Cellers Martí Serdà — centenary Casa Berger, founded in 1878 — macerated with more than fifty aromatic herbs and refined for two months in a solera of five-hundred-litre oak barrels. The profile is smooth and sweet, with balance between sweetness and bitterness that the house defines as bandarrismo in a glass. Caramel colour, 15% vol., 50 cl, 1 L, 3 L and 5 L formats. For Vermutpedia, it represents modern Penedès vermouth with Barcelona aperitif DNA: accessible, generous in litre format and coherent with the brand's nostalgic aesthetic.
Nose and palate
The house sheet describes a smooth, sweet vermouth with good balance between sweetness and bitterness. On the nose emerge maceration herbs: bitter orange, cinnamon, clove and arriquitaun hints that recall Penedès Mediterranean botanics. Caramel adds colour and roundness without masking herbal bitterness. Sweet, enveloping entry on the palate, silky texture and notable persistence; bitter aftertaste appears in balance, without aggression, facilitating prolonged aperitif drinking. Two months in five-hundred-litre oak solera add a light woody layer that rounds the whole. Compared with more barricaded Catalan reds or Jerez solera vermouths, El Bandarra Rojo bets on sweetness and drinkability over aged complexity. The 15% vol. supports structure without heaviness. In the glass, caramel unctuousness and herbal maceration freshness stand out; bitter aftertaste closes with elegance and leaves a clean sensation. A semisweet profile designed for ice, orange and olives: entry sweetness, contained bitterness and persistent finish inviting repetition on terrace or at the bar.
How to serve it
El Bandarra recommends serving with ice, an orange slice and two olives — «life is very short», says the official website. It is the classic format of the Barcelona aperitif the brand evokes: terrace, tapas painted on glass and conversation without rush. Works very cold in a wide tumbler or balloon glass; orange reinforces citrus botanics and olives dialogue with aperitif sweetness and salinity. The one-litre format — the most emblematic — invites sharing at the table; 50 cl also exists to try, 3 L and 5 L for bars and celebrations. In mixology it can replace standard red vermouth in Spritz or local Negroni when a sweeter, Mediterranean profile is sought. Pairs with preserves, charcuterie, patatas bravas and classic tapas. Temperature between 6 and 8 °C; avoid excess ice that would dilute the sweetness-bitterness balance. Also works in Spritz with soda or local combinations with cava for a festive Penedès aperitif.
Production context
El Bandarra Rojo is made in Sant Miquel d'Olèrdola (Penedès) under Vimes 15 S.L., with Xarel·lo and Macabeo grapes from own vineyards at Cellers Martí Serdà, centenary Casa Berger (1878). Maceration with more than fifty herbs — including clove, cinnamon and bitter orange; caramel added for colour; two months refinement in five-hundred-litre oak barrel solera. 15% vol.; 50 cl, 1 L, 3 L and 5 L formats. Range includes Blanco (Garnacha Blanca and Xarel·lo, vanilla), Rosé (35% less sugar, red fruit and lollipop) and Al Fresco (light grapefruit aperitif, 14.5% vol.). El Bandarra positions as homage to 1950s vermouth Barcelona, with nostalgic aesthetic and carefree tone. Vimes 15 S.L. markets the range from Sant Miquel d'Olèrdola; the Red is the most widespread reference in hospitality and retail. For Vermutpedia, it synthesises contemporary Penedès vermouth: local grape, generous botanics, brief solera and sweet profile for aperitif. Sheet verifiable at elbandarra.com.
