Luis The Marinero Red Vermut
Vermutpedia Score: 8.3/10
Overall impression
Luis The Marinero Red Vermut is the red expression of a Mediterranean line from Bodegas Valdepablo (Terrer, Calatayud) designed to stand out through design without giving up the quality of a vermouth house since 1928. Sailor-stripe bottles — unmistakable and avant-garde in spirit, according to the winery — wrap an original formula that shares Valdepablo's know-how with added visual appeal. The line also includes white vermouth and sangrias; the red sits as an aperitivo with herbaceous, dynamic personality, a step above Casa Valdepablo in price and presentation.
Nose and palate
Mahogany colour with amber highlights. On the nose, clean aromas of aromatic herbs and spices with touches of nutmeg, clove and cinnamon blended with citrus notes that bring freshness and dynamism. Soft on entry, on the palate it unfolds herbaceous personality, something balsamic and spiced notes, finishing with a long, original aftertaste.
How to serve it
Cold with ice and an orange slice for a Mediterranean aperitivo; also in Americano or Negroni when you want a red vermouth with more citrus freshness than the classic bar pour. The winery sells the Luis The Marinero range in its online shop, with summer packs combining vermouths and sangrias from the line.
Production context
Made in Terrer (Zaragoza) by Bodegas Valdepablo, a family winery exporting to more than thirty-five countries. Original formula of the Luis The Marinero line; 15% vol., 75 cl. The house presented the line as a Mediterranean design bet while maintaining the quality the brand has represented since Juan Manuel Pablo in 1928.
