Valdepablo Gran Añada
Vermutpedia Score: 9.0/10
Overall impression
Valdepablo Gran Añada occupies the top tier of a family bodega in Terrer (Calatayud) that has made vermouth since 1928. Against Casa Valdepablo — direct aperitif — and Selección — more worked — Gran Añada opts for prolonged maceration and months in oak barrel to gain balsamic complexity and wood. The house describes it as a vermouth to drink slowly, not in one gulp.
Nose and palate
Mahogany red with copper reflections. Intense, herbaceous nose: wormwood, rosemary, star anise and chamomile evoke alpine mountain per the official note. On the palate, balance between balsamic flavours and wood; bitterness softened by barrel vanilla; long, intense aftertaste.
How to serve it
With ice and orange in a slow aperitif; also in Negroni when you want an Aragonese vermouth with visible ageing. Valdepablo recommends this profile to those who already know Casa and want more depth.
Production context
Two months of botanical maceration and six months in oak barrel, per product sheet (classic Casa works around two weeks' contact). 16% vol., 1-litre bottle. Made in Terrer with Calatayud grapes and botanicals from the family recipe.
