Overall impression

Myrrha Rojo Reserva is the evolved expression of the vermouth that the Padró family has been producing since 1886: the Myrrha range represents the traditional and direct style against the premium Padró & Co. line (18°). The Reserva version incorporates mistela and 12 months of rest in casks from the ageing of great Jerez brandies, which clearly sets it apart from the standard Myrrha Rojo — lighter, with a younger base wine and sweetened with sugar. The 1 L bottle is suited to bar service, home aperitif and relaxed after-dinner occasions.

Nose and palate

Toasted and dried-fruit aromas, with a spiced and balsamic layer imparted by the Jerez wood during months of rest. On the palate the gentle sweetness and delicate bitterness evolve towards a silky and balanced texture, with an enveloping persistence. Rounder and more complex than the classic red in the range, without reaching the degree or intensity of Padró & Co. Rojo Clásico.

How to serve it

Chilled without ice to appreciate the full aromatic range; with ice and an orange twist if more acidity and bitterness are desired. Also in a Negroni or Manhattan when a reserve vermouth with dried-fruit notes is wanted. The bodega recommends a quiet aperitif or after-dinner occasion.

Production context

Produced at the Bodega Padró i Família (Bràfim, Tarragona) with own base wine from Macabeo and Xarel·lo, maceration of botanicals — many of Alpine origin — and 12 months of ageing in barrels that previously held Jerez. Sweetened with mistela, which softens the bitterness and adds roundness. 15% vol., 100 cl. The Myrrha range includes Rojo, Blanco and this Reserva reference as the most complex step.
