Overall impression

Padró & Co. Reserva Especial is the most complex and gastronomic red vermouth in the Bràfim (Tarragona) house's portfolio. Designed for those seeking liqueur-like intensity and depth in the glass, it combines the Padró solera with a singular addition of sweet fortified wine in the style of Tarragona Clásico — aged five years in oak vats. The result is a premium profile within the Catalan range, at 18% vol., with a more contemplative personality than the Rojo Clásico or the Dorado Amargo.

Nose and palate

The official tasting note highlights dried figs, toasted hazelnuts and fresh walnuts on the nose. On the palate it is warm and liqueur-like, with liquorice, medicinal herbs and an elegant bitterness that never feels aggressive. The finish is long, spiced and rounded, with the enveloping sensation characteristic of sherry-style ageing and the blend with fortified wine.

How to serve it

Ideal very cold, in a short glass or vermouth tumbler, as a leisurely aperitif or after-dinner digestif. The bodega suggests pairing with smoked fish or aged and blue cheeses, where its liqueur-like character finds a salty, fatty counterpoint.

Production context

After the botanical infusion on the red vermouth base, the blend incorporates Tarragona Clásico (5 years in oak vats) and completes 18 months of ageing in sherry casks before bottling. 75 cl format. The benchmark reserve reference of Padró i Família, sibling to the Rojo Reserva and Dorado Reserva in the premium line.
