Vermut Nº1
Overall impression
Vermut Nº1 is the first proprietary product from Nº1 Artisans Work, a Galician craft-beverage startup based in Vigo (Pontevedra) and focused on incubating and launching artisan drinks for hospitality and direct sales. Presented in 2021 according to specialist press, it is made in small batches from white grapes linked to the Camino de Santiago: Sauvignon Blanc and Verdejo from the French route and Albariño from the Portuguese route, bringing freshness and a citrus profile to the resulting red vermouth. Maceration with fifteen aromatic herbs defines a grapefruit, orange and cinnamon character according to tasting notes published by the brand. For Vermutpedia, Nº1 synthesises Atlantic-Camino vermouth: an international blend on the Jacobean route, artisan small-lot production and distribution outside the supermarket circuit.
Nose and palate
Pending evaluation.
How to serve it
Very cold, neat or on ice; the brand itself recommends a lime slice or peel and a touch of soda to enhance citrus tones against the official profile's cinnamon and grapefruit. Works as a light aperitivo and terrace vermouth with simple pairing.
Production context
Nº1 Artisans Work (Vigo, Pontevedra) makes and distributes Vermut Nº1 alongside other house craft references —Saudade liqueur, London Dstills gin, Dstills whisky— through its own app and ambassador network across Spain. Production in small-format artisan distilleries according to launch documentation; no documented wood ageing. 75 cl. Alcohol level not confirmed on an accessible public technical sheet at the time of this review. For Vermutpedia, Vermut Nº1 documents a Galician startup's vermouth bet with Camino de Santiago identity and a fifteen-herb botanical recipe.
