Vermut Ciento Volando Rojo

Bodegas Urbanas (Fernández Pons)

Godella , España

Overall impression

Ciento Volando Rojo is the organic red vermouth of Bodegas Urbanas in Godella (Valencia): «our most modern classic», a traditional recipe with Fernández Pons' own touch. According to the technical sheet, it starts from estate Macabeo white wine, artisan alcohol distilled from their organic wines in copper alembics — aromatic, complex and subtle, barrel-aged like quality whiskies —, Fair Trade caramelised cane sugar (Oxfam Intermón) and a selection of flowers, fruits, spices and Mediterranean forest aromatic herbs; bitterness is supported by orange peel and artemisia. At 15.5% vol. and 75 cl, it is the reference red of the Ciento Volando range alongside white, pink and orange, in an urban-organic project ten kilometres from central Valencia.

How to serve it

According to the technical sheet, serve cold between 6 and 8 °C over ice; garnish with an orange slice and an olive. Pairs with salted fish, pickles, preserves and/or spiced or spicy food. Accepts a Valencian spritz with soda and mixed drinks where cane-sugar sweetness and spices dialogue with citrus. Bodegas Urbanas promotes it in guided tastings and at ElWineBar in Godella. Available at bodegasurbanas.es/tienda, in 6-bottle cases and 20 L Key Keg.
