Overall impression

Douce Folie Blanc is an organic artisan vermouth from Distiloire, a distillery in Sucé-sur-Erdre near Nantes. Built on Muscadet — the jewel of the pays nantais — and a dozen organic plants and spices in maceration, according to distiloire.com. An apéritif wine of subtle sugar-bitter balance, 100% natural with no added caramel. Agriculture Biologique certification across the range.

Nose and palate

Straw colour with natural reflections. The first nose offers an explosion of spice and aromatic herbs over brandied cherries, grapefruit and peppery notes. A soft palate with a balance of sweetness and alcohol, fresh finish and sustained bitterness that prolongs vanilla and spice.

How to serve it

Neat and well chilled, in a Dry Martini, with tonic or sparkling water. Distiloire recommends keeping refrigerated after opening and consuming preferably within three months. Sibling of Douce Folie Rouge in Vermutpedia.

Production context

Wines from Benoît Landron (Domaine Landron-Chartier) on slopes above the Loire: hand harvest, indigenous yeasts, minimal intervention. Botanics include gentian, absinthe, rosemary, Roman chamomile, Madagascar pepper, orange and vanilla. 17% vol., 75 cl and 20 cl formats.
