Overall impression

Douce Folie Rouge is an organic vermouth from Distiloire with an original blend of Muscadet and Cabernet Franc, enriched by artisan maceration of a dozen organic plants and spices. Light red colour slightly tinted by the Cabernet, no added caramel — 100% natural according to distiloire.com. An apéritif wine of sugar-bitter balance, made in Sucé-sur-Erdre (Nantes).

Nose and palate

An explosion of spice and herbs over brandied cherries, with garrigue aromas and peppery notes. A soft palate, slightly firm, between red fruit and gentian; fresh finish, controlled bitterness, persistence in vanilla and spice.

How to serve it

Neat and cold, in a Negroni or Americano, with tonic or Loire crémant for a revisited spritz. Keep refrigerated and consume preferably within three months after opening, per house advice.

Production context

Wines from Benoît Landron (Domaine Landron-Chartier) in Ancenis: organic cultivation, hand harvest, indigenous yeasts. Botanics: gentian, absinthe, rosemary, Roman chamomile, Madagascar pepper, orange, vanilla. 17% vol., 75 cl and 20 cl. Pair of Douce Folie Blanc in the Distiloire vermouth range.
