Gamondi Vermouth di Torino Superiore Rosso
Overall impression
Vermutpedia is re-evaluating the Italian catalogue; the Vermutpedia Score for this entry remains pending until the new tasting round is complete. Gamondi Vermouth di Torino Superiore Rosso is the red peak of Gamondi Spirits — Piedmont brand recovered by the Toso family in Cossano Belbo from herbalist Carlo Gamondi's old recipe — that sought to combine aroma freshness with a blend of high-quality wines. According to gamondi.es, it proceeds from a recipe created by harvesting products at the right season for aromatisation, with infusions of fresh bitter orange peels and wormwood flowers skilfully mixed with other herbs and spices on Piedmont wines. 100% Piedmont blend with up to 32 botanicals in six separate infusions: absinthe, vanilla, saffron, cinnamon, gentian-cinchona-wormwood and Ligurian bitter orange. Vermouth dell'Anno 2020. 18% vol., 1 L. For Vermutpedia, it represents maximum-expression Vermouth di Torino Superiore red: intense, spiced and with pleasant bitter aftertaste, third of four modalities in the Gamondi range.
Nose and palate
The official sheet describes a traditional Piedmont aperitif, refreshing, prepared according to the old home recipe. Amber in colour, it presents aromatic, intense nose with cinchona, coriander and bitter orange notes. Taste is intense and persistent, with pleasant bitter aftertaste. Six separate infusions preserve each botanical's identity: absinthe and wormwood bring clean bitterness; vanilla and cinnamon, spiced sweetness; saffron, depth; gentian-cinchona, bitter structure; Ligurian bitter orange, balsamic citrus freshness. On the palate, semisweet balance with spiced layers and long finish in bitter register. Compared with Superiore Bianco (17% vol., floral, Madagascar vanilla) or standard Rosso, Superiore Rosso is more intense, more amber and with higher alcohol. A red for palates seeking Vermouth di Torino with Gamondi heritage and complexity of up to 32 botanicals. The house places it as reference for aperitif and author mixology.
How to serve it
Gamondi recommends Superiore Rosso excellent served solo, with ice or as a base for surprising cocktails; serve cold or on ice, according to the official shop. Classic Piedmont aperitif in low glass or with large ice cube; cinchona, coriander and bitter orange profile dialogues with olives, grissini and light charcuterie. In author mixology, it brings intensity and bitterness to Negroni, Manhattan or creations seeking Vermouth di Torino Superiore with body. The 1 L format responds to professional bar and domestic consumption. Temperature between 4 and 6 °C; ice refreshes without needing soda. Not light-profile vermouth: it shines where persistence and bitter aftertaste are needed. For slow tasting, very cold cocktail glass without ice allows appreciation of six infusions and amber colour. Coherent with Gamondi's cocktail programme and the Rosso, Bianco, Superiore Rosso and Superiore Bianco range.
