La Madre Vermut Blanco

La Madre Vermouth

Batea , España

Overall impression

La Madre Vermut Blanco is the star white of Josep Maria Castillo's range (Batea, Terra Alta). In export it also appears as "Green Apple Touch" for the green-apple maceration—same reference, different commercial name in some markets. Made with mother essence of thirty-five botanicals—wormwood, star anise, cinnamon, vanilla, cardamom, lavender, angelica, calamus, blessed thistle, nutmeg and apple—on a Macabeo and Garnacha base according to La Vermu. Best seller alongside Red and Rosé in the official shop.

Nose and palate

Pale straw colour. Vibrant nose with intense green-apple aroma according to La Vermu. Fresh, clean palate, subtly herbal: liquorice, citrus and sharp sweetness; lightly bitter finish with botanical depth. Apple aftertaste mixed with bitter roots and bark.

How to serve it

Over ice; a recognisable, accessible vermouth in its nuances according to distributors. The green-apple signature makes it distinctive in spritz or simple terrace serves without elaborate garnish.

Production context

Made in Batea (Tarragona). Macabeo + Garnacha base; thirty-five botanicals. Essence process in amphorae and barrel shared with the rest of the La Madre range. Fifteen percent alcohol, 75 cl (~€8.60 RRP La Vermu).
