La Madre Vermut Premium

La Madre Vermouth

Batea , España

Overall impression

La Madre Vermut Premium is Josep Maria Castillo's ageing statement from Batea (Terra Alta): the reserve vermouth the house reserves for drinkers who pay for complexity. Forty botanicals—more than the thirty-two to thirty-five of the standard range—undergo thirty-five days of maceration in ceramic amphorae, six months of essence ageing in chestnut and a final four months in oak after blending with white wine, per ViOrigen (~ten months total). It is the gastronomic, evolving face of Terra Alta vermouth.

Nose and palate

Intense, succulent red in the glass. The nose is exuberant and complex; on the palate balsamic and herbal notes alternate with toasted oak, while bitterness integrates perfectly into a long, structured finish. More evolving and food-friendly than the standard Rojo from the same house—it rewards slow sipping.

How to serve it

ViOrigen suggests serving it very cold as aperitif or digestif. This is premium barrel-aged Terra Alta vermouth for contemplative service rather than anonymous mixing—though a Negroni with character is hardly out of place. Chill thoroughly before opening.

Production context

Elaborated in Batea (Tarragona) with forty botanicals through amphora, chestnut and oak stages. Fifteen percent alcohol, 75 cl (~€15 RRP at ViOrigen). Part of the official Pack 4 «The Magnificent 4» alongside Rojo, Blanco, Rosé and Dry.
