Overall impression

Maladona Vermut Rojo is one of the flagships of Celler Díaz (Sitges, Barcelona), Miguel A. Díaz's artisan micro-winery dedicated to limited-production vermouths alongside Cala Morisca, Cap de Grills and Egarenca. Made with twenty-eight botanicals and a delicate blend of white wines from Catalonia according to La Vermu, it embodies the Sitges vermouth style: small scale, coastal character and the classic Catalan method of building red vermouth on a white-wine base.

Nose and palate

Distributors note marked coffee, liquorice and nutmeg with a bitter touch at the finish. The profile is typical of red vermouth made on a white-wine base — the classic Catalan method — with spiced and herbaceous layers characteristic of Celler Díaz's Sitges range. Coffee and spice sit over integrated herbal bitterness; the semisweet frame supports botanical intensity without excess sweetness, and the finish leaves a clean bitter echo that distinguishes Maladona from more neutral commercial reds.

How to serve it

Cold over ice with orange peel, as a Sitges aperitif. Part of the Pack Vermutero Sitgeta and the celler's artisan line, Maladona fits terrace service, local tapas and simple mixed drinks where coffee, liquorice and spice should read clearly. Serve between 6 and 8 °C in a wide glass; the orange peel lifts nutmeg and balances the semisweet body.
