Cala Morisca Blue Edition

Celler Díaz

Sitges , España

Overall impression

Cala Morisca Blue Edition is the most special vermouth from Celler Díaz (Sitges): it recovers the «old formula» of Garraf vermouths from the nineteenth century with Malvasía de Sitges and more than twenty-four botanicals. Three months of maceration in damajanas on the winery rooftop and six months of homogenisation in tank. Also marketed in specialised channels as Cap de Grills — same production, different historic commercial name.

Nose and palate

Dark toasted brilliant colour. Herbaceous aroma: artemisia and gentian, nutmeg, cinnamon and subtle bitter orange peel citrus (final phase). On the palate sweet-bitter conjunction; long, unctuous, great aftertaste. Potent aromatic point that rounds the celler's most premium vermouth according to Celler Díaz.

How to serve it

Aperitivo with ice and orange peel. Short-age reference due to the 3+3 month process. The pinnacle of the Cala Morisca line for drinkers seeking historic Garraf vermouth craftsmanship rather than the quicker Macabeo entry references.

Production context

Made in Sitges (Barcelona). Malvasía de Sitges + twenty-four botanicals; three months maceration in rooftop damajanas; six months homogenisation. 16% vol., 75 cl (~€12.75 RRP). Summit of the range alongside Black Edition and Egarenca.
